As such he is uniquely placed to offer advice on what does work, and crucially what does NOT work.

How does the Resume Campus help you?

We will create or redesign your resume and tailor your story and sales pitch not only to the Australian financial services job market, but if needed to the sub-sector within the Financial Services based on profession or type of employer. In addition he offers one to one career counselling and coaching on interview techniques and what the interviewer is looking for in a candidate.

Why we are unique in Australia?

As a client you will be looked after exclusively by us. Your needs are never outsourced to a faceless third party with whom you can’t interact, or resume writing software. Nathan will be your sole point of contact in relation to your resume and interview coaching. You effectively have your own personal career coach!

OUR APPROACH

Our approach is based on Nathan’s experience in recruiting at such a diverse range of organisations. We factor in the following basic rules when redesigning your resume or giving interview coaching:

Understanding the corporate culture

The reality of getting a job is to first acknowledge that every firm has their own distinct corporate culture, often derived from where their headquarters are based, be it Australia, the USA or UK, Japan or Singapore. Within every firm there are different sub-cultures to contend with when applying for roles, and a resume should always try to reflect that.  For example a Sales or Front office resume needs to exhibit more dynamism than a resume for Compliance, or Operations. Trading firms require bravado, Asset Management firms require a more analytical and calm feel to a resume.

Nathan  has recruited extensively for all departments in the Banking and Finance industry in Australia, from IT to Audit, Derivatives and FX traders to Research Analysts, and from Interns to Executive Directors so few are better placed to advise on how to navigate corporate cultures whilst applying for a job.

Nathan’s experience means that not only does he know what HR wants to see in your resume depending on the role, but also what the recruiting department manager wants to see, and they are often different viewpoints.

Identifying and showcasing the relevant skills

Its incredibly hard to be objective about your own achievements when writing your own resume. Its nothing to be ashamed of if you have sat down in front of your laptop and had a mental block.  You are in the vast majority!

Unless you are a born sales person, writing a resume will go entirely against your natural modesty in elaborating on your achievement and skills. Even Nathan admits he would rather have a trip to the dentist that update his own resume!

Nathan has dealt with very senior and successful people who are at the top of their professions, who will admit that they can put together deal worth 100s of millions of dollars, and claim trying to write their own resume is impossible.

Interview skills and the right attitude

Although getting your resume ready for your ideal role is the first step, it is only the first step.  The interview process is where success and failure are really determined.  Succeed in the interviews and the job is yours.

During his career Nathan has interviewed several thousand candidates, not as an external recruitment consultant, but as the hiring HR within the organisation. This has allowed him to build up an unrivaled amount of knowledge of what really works for candidates during an interview.
